Day Two Chamje to Dhorapani

Our walk from Chamje to Dhorapani was steadily uphill following the turquoise Marsyangdi River. Waterfalls roar down either side of the valley. We crossed two suspension bridges and kept the pace "bistari, bistari" slowly, slowly. Our friendly porter, Tanas, carried both of our duffels for the entire trek. Working as a porter is first step towards becoming a trekking guide. Groups of donkeys passed us both ways...those headed uphill were loaded with rice and supplies for villages up the valley. The donkeys all wear bells with red pom poms around their necks so we can hear them coming around the bend. The steep sided gorge is spectacular with hints of the high peaks teasing us through the clouds as we walk. Though there are other trekkers around, the pace is quiet as we focus on our feet and the beauty around us. Trekking steadily uphill, this Nepali lady and I silently walked as partners. Though I was out for an adventure, I believe she was simply returning home.
